Review: Kabab Mistri at Hotel Jaisinghgarh, Udaipur
The best part of eating at a Chef's restaurant is that you can bet upon the taste and quality!
Many times when a non-food person runs a restaurant, there are chances of compromising the quality of ingredients or cooking methods applied in preparing the dishes. Like using readymade marination paste to save expenses and time, keeping your tikkas and kababs half-cooked in the refrigerator and on order a quick dip into hot tandoor and many. But when a Chef is in charge of running a business with his well-trained team, you can be assured that not many shortcuts are taken in preparing the food you have ordered. One of such nice places to enjoy a sumptuous dinner is Kabab Mistri at Jaisinghgarh Hotel by famous Chef Vimal Dhar.
If you have a meat craving, this place is a must visit for you! As the name suggests, they are the 'best mistri' for making Kabab here in this city!
After my sixth dining experience in the last couple of years, I'm writing this review focusing majorly on the latest one when I visited this restaurant on 01st of July, the post-GST era.
Upon a recommendation of our humble and knowledgeable server, Mr Khemraj, we ordered an appetiser, Murg ke butthe. As described nicely in their Menu, this Kababs are made with meats from one of the juiciest part of a chicken, the thighs! A preferred choice for making kababs by a majority of the culinary fraternity.
Murgh Ke Butthe |
Chicken thighs are skewered with kachri marinade and then grilled in a tandoor. The juicy pieces of chicken were full of spices and grilled to perfection. The charred crusts on the outside were something to die for while relishing the kabab.
For the main course, we ordered Bhunjama Gosht and some butter naan bread. Bhunjama Gosht is a mildly spicy yet flavorful dish where the tender pieces of mutton were prepared in a curry with robust flavours of garlic, chillis and coriander seeds.
Mutton Bhunjama |
We enjoyed the tender mutton pieces and a special mention for the quantity of the dish. We got almost six medium to large pieces of the meat in it, and at the price in which they're serving, this is worth every penny. Not taking any name, but many of the restaurants in the city are serving very less quantity of actual meat in their mutton dishes these days in comparison to the price they're quoting in their menu.
The naan bread was perfect, and the repeat order was also served promptly.
We enjoyed the food a lot, and the roof top dining area's ambience was all set to spoil us with an overcast sky, candle lights all around and a live Gazal performance, a regular arrangement by the restaurant.
The restaurant is situated on the 3rd floor of the hotel, Jaisinghgarh and has an ample parking space. The menu provides you with excellent choices for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
In this GST era, they have removed the Service Charge from their billing to pass on some encouragement to the diners in their dilemma over the tax amount. A great gesture! I must say.
And it's recommended reserving your table prior if you're heading on weekends.
In a nutshell, a must try for anyone with meat craving and a fondness to a romantic, relaxed dining experience.
